Jefferson County has officially joined thousands of other communities in this year’s annual Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) in support of career pathways in manufacturing and teaching communities about the amazing technology involved in the products made right here in Southern Illinois. Last year, MFG Day events convinced 84% of attendees that manufacturing careers are interesting and rewarding. There were 2,807 MFG Day events in the U.S. and we hope to surpass this benchmark. This is a day that celebrates our manufacturers and the jobs they create, changes public perception, draws attention to the role of manufacturing in the community, and underscores its significance in the economy.
Our Manufacturing Day event will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017. So far, the employers agreeing to participate include; Continental Tire the Americas, National Railway Equipment, Magnum Steel Works, Phoenix Modular Elevator, and PPG Coatings, with more inquiries pending. The planned event will include up to three plant tours and a lunch where participants can share their reaction to the tours with employers and educators, and try out some group activities as well. JCDC is coordinating this event in partnership with these manufacturers and ManTraCon, who is also engaged with Marion for a similar event there.
Our Manufacturing Day event will target area high school students, Rend Lake College students, ManTraCon participants and the general public. To see the event and learn more about Manufacturing Day, CLICK HERE!
